Welcome to the Sustainable Tourism Partnership pages!

I believe that the future for Scottish tourism lies in making it sustainable! What does this mean?

Sustainable development balances the benefits of economic development against environmental and social costs. Just as sustainable development assumes continued economic growth, so sustainable tourism assumes continued tourism growth. Sustainable tourism will ensure that Scotland’s two key tourism assets, our natural heritage and our communities, will survive and thrive. Our group are encouraging businesses to join the Green Tourism Business Scheme, have established a company called Climate Change Scotland to undertake carbon-offsetting research, have published case studies highlighting excellent examples of tourism businesses using renewable energies, and are developing a sustainable tourism strategy.

These pages highlight what we are doing to pursue making Scotland Europe’s most sustainable tourist destination. But we cannot do it on our own – we need your help. Please participate in our work by using this website, taking part in the discussion forum at tffc@stf.co.uk
